RINEKE DIJKSTRA
Dutch artist Rineke Dijkstra (b. 1959) is one of the most prominent photographers in Europe, breaking through in the 90's with portraits of newborn mothers and bullfighters. With her large format camera, she documents how identity is created and shaped. Human, conflict-filled emotions in extreme situations are a running theme in her images, whether they are photographed on the beach, in the maternity ward or at home.
Dijkstra has a peculiar sense for details and captures them in her characteristic way: up close and personal with her subjects. In 2017 she received the prestigious Hasselblad Prize for her trendsetting portraits.
